"Many
recommendations of the Millennium development goals and
the country's vision 2030 are echoed in the thinking and
concept behind this training workshop on modern chromatography
and related techniques. Of particular importance is the
involvement of a University-Private partnership in the organization
of the workshop. Indeed, this partnership is one of the
strategic objectives of the University of Nairobi Strategic
Plan for the year 2008 - 2013. The widely scattered laboratories
in Kenya are often small, generally poorly equipped and
sometimes their technologies are unreliable. This means
that we have to make great effort to find funding for equipping
their analytical laboratories and their projects and at
the very least support ways for their scientists to attend
joint practical training workshops and meetings.
"It is a particular pleasure to note that a Unversity-Private-Sector
partnership has brought this training to fruition. The sponsorship
of ACCTA, Nesvax, Urad, Anatech, Estec, Chemetrix and ScientistSolutions,
and also the assistance of the University of Nairobi, CBPS
in the organization of the first East & Central Africa
Chromatography Users Workshop is greatly appreciated. The
college is sincerely grateful to Prof. Paul Shiundu and
Mr. John Angira for organization of this workshop.
"... We all look forward in meeting again in Nairobi
in 2010 when we are certain to see many interesting developments
and the involvement of more East and Central African Laboratories
and Scientists."

The
First Annual East & Central Africa Chromatography Training
and Vendor Exhibition was held at the University of Nairobi
on 25 - 29 May, 2009. A group of about 20 students, from companies
and organizations throughout Kenya, attended, along with four
sponsoring vendors.
Through
five days of lectures, discussion, and demonstrations, the students
were able to learn about chromatography theory, gas chromatography,
liquid chromatography, and sample preparation. Everyone enjoyed
the training and many positive comments were received at the
end of the training.
